What were you doing before NoPause, and how did the idea come to you?
I was working in EdTech with refugees and workforce development. And I was doing what most women do, trying to piece things together myself. Symptoms that didn't make sense, like a bad shoulder. Fragmented information. Conversations with doctors that left me feeling dismissed rather than supported.
It wasn't one moment. It was the accumulation of realizing I was expected to navigate something complex, expensive, and life-altering without a clear, trusted guide. I lived the issue without support or help, so I built this for myself. Then others used it. Then others. So I built it again.
In one or two sentences, what does NoPause do and who is it for?
NoPause is the intelligence layer for menopause care and advocacy, helping women understand what their body is signaling and advocate effectively with their doctors. It's built for women navigating perimenopause and menopause who are being overlooked, misdiagnosed, or left to figure it out alone.
How long did it take to build your first version, and how much did it cost to get there?
The first version cost me time more than anything. About five months and probably around $10,000.
What did you spend time or money on that turned out to be a complete waste?
I overly designed and spent on that. The design wasn't holding it back, it was the functionality. So I learned from that and pivoted to product first.
How did you get your first users, or if you're still early, how are you planning to?
Started with friends, then colleagues, then referrals. Just launching to the public sphere now.
The shift happened when someone I trusted used it and immediately said, "I need to show this to my doctor." That was the moment it clicked. This wasn't just helpful, it changed how someone showed up in a clinical conversation. From there, it naturally moved from friends to colleagues to referrals, because it solved a problem people were already talking about but didn't have a tool for.
What's one decision you've made so far that had the biggest positive impact on your product or business?
Authenticity. I am the customer, and I know the problem. Trying to be too clever about it would have damaged the brand.
We had moments where we could have leaned into a more generic "wellness" aesthetic. Softer language, more polished, less direct. Instead, we chose to be explicit about what women are actually experiencing and what's at stake, including the economic and career impact of menopause. It would have been easier to soften it, but that would have made the product feel less credible when it matters most, especially in a doctor's office.
What's the best feedback or reaction you've gotten from someone who's seen or tried your product?
"Oh wow, I didn't realize that symptom was related. Now I can talk to my doctor about it in a clearer way."
What's been the lowest moment so far? What kept you going?
At one point I had investor refusals for being too early and I started to doubt myself so much that I started making bad decisions. I stepped out of my comfort zone when this happened and engaged a mentor and took stock.
At first you just build, email, apply, and you can't see the wood for the trees. Stepping back allowed me to see where I was and properly stage the next workflows. It really helped.
How do you decide what to work on next? What gets priority and what gets ignored?
I have one question: does this help the user? If it doesn't, it doesn't get priority. If I'm not moving things in the direction of authenticity and trust that I want, then I step away.
Some tasks are just not so exciting, but ignoring them could do harm. I tend to start the day with the most boring task I have, and then I have things to look forward to as a reward.
What's the one reason someone would pick your product over the alternatives?
It is built for the women it serves, and by the women it serves. We are there together to advocate for a better healthcare space for women. We are not here to sell, diagnose, or just track, but to really give you the tools to understand your symptoms and then discuss them in a way that gets you the best outcomes for your body.
